3 Tips To Keep The Water Out Of Your Home
Along with the warm weather comes rain. While you need rain to water the flowers, plants and trees, it can also pose a lot of problems to your home. The excess rain can end up causing leaks to occur and penetrate your home. To make sure your home doesn't end up getting flooded, here are a few simple tips and tricks to get your home waterproofed and keep it secure for quite some time.
Clean the rain gutters.
Cleaning gutters isn't exactly at the top of anyone's list. All of the leaves and debris that get trapped in the gutters form a clog that rain cannot penetrate. Instead of being able to flow freely down the gutters and away from your home, the rain ends up getting pushed back up underneath of your roof and into your home. The best way to overcome the clog is to clean your gutters a couple times per year. You can easily use your garden hose to get in there and flush out any clogs inside of the downspout.
Repair any cracks in your concrete.
At some point in time or another, your concrete is going to end up cracking. However, there are things that you can do to eliminate the cracks and restore your concrete. If the crack is smaller than a quarter-inch, you can use a concrete caulk to seal off the crack. Use a hose to clean out the crack and make sure there is no debris in the crack. Once cleaned out, allow it to dry and then apply your caulking. For a larger crack, you can get a concrete patch. Either way you look at it, you want to get the cracks sealed off to prevent any water from making its way into your home and ruining the foundation.
Alter the grade around your home.
You want the water to drain away from your home, not toward it. The best way to prevent rainwater from penetrating your foundation and flooding your basement is to add in some soil around the perimeter of your home. Rake it down to where it is nice and smooth. You want to make sure the soil is highest along the perimeter so that the water will get stopped before it ever has a chance to seep inside of your living space.
By taking the necessary precautions, you can prevent water from penetrating your home and keep your belongings safe and secure inside.www.b-suresystems.com
